Opinion | As Trump grows more isolated and unhinged, here’s what to ...

  • Biden’s campaign slammed Trump on Friday, calling the former president “confused.”
  • The president’s team shared the statement with X, pointing to Trump’s discussion of energy strategy.
  • The former president criticized wind energy and China’s pollution during his address.

Former President Donald Trump raged against wind energy at a Friday campaign address in Iowa, instead promoting oil extraction and the fossil fuel sector, a frequent theme at many of his rallies.

However, several claims made by Trump during a series of talks in Sioux Centre caused President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign to label the former president as “confused.”

Earlier in his speech, Trump spoke of the need to “drill, drill, drill” for oil and remarked that wind power was “extremely expensive” before naming China as the maker of windmills.

“Remember this: the currents, both sea and air, they fly right over our country,” he went on to say. “The current, the water comes down the Pacific, right out of China, so when they dump their garbage in the Pacific it comes right down along our coast, on the West Coast past Los Angeles.”

“Much of it pours onto our land, but our waters are very dirty because they dump their garbage in the ocean and it’s about a four or five-day journey,” he said. “The tides carry it by. Nobody ever discusses that.”

Trump stated that the United States needs “clean coal” and natural gas, and vowed to “protect our miners.” The previous president then began to talk about pollution and currents.

“When they fire up their plants, all of that pollution flows over the oceans and into our land. “And then they want us to be clean,” he explained. “I said, ‘We’ll be clean, but everything’s flying.'” Simply remember that. Does that make sense?

“In other words, it’s all coming through the currents, through the air, it all comes,” he said. “They can name it, they can say exactly where it’s going to be and when.”

Trump also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Biden administration’s emphasis on wind energy, while countries such as China continue to use large amounts of fossil fuels.

With Biden projected to win the Democratic presidential nomination and Trump remaining the leader for the Republican nominee, a replay of their 2020 race later this year appears more plausible. While Trump and his friends have tried to make the 81-year-old Biden’s age a point of contention, it is uncertain how much Democrats will use it against the GOP in a race against Trump, who is 77 years old.

TRUMP EDGES BIDEN AGAIN IN NEW 2024 POLL, BUILDS SUPPORT WITH YOUNGER VOTERS

Trump went on to tell Fox News Digital that “because of his gross incompetence, Joe Biden is a true threat to democracy.”

“This is not a time for us to have a mentally challenged president,” Trump said in a statement.

Trump’s remarks came after Biden slammed him for “the worst dereliction of duty by a president in American history” and “an attempt to overturn a free and fair election through force and violence.”

But the president responded by saying: “The only insurrection is the insurrection that is taking place at our border where he is allowing millions of people from parts unknown to invade our country at a level far worse than even a military invasion.”

Trump has never been charged with insurrection, despite Special Counsel Jack Smith’s accusations stemming from an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol demonstrations and the 2020 election.

Smith charged Trump with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to hinder an official process, obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy to violate rights.

Trump pled not guilty on all allegations.
