The Steelers defeated the Titans 20-16 thanks to 165 total rushing yards, another impressive fourth quarter from Kenny Pickett, and Diontae Johnson’s first touchdown reception since the 2021 campaign. They now stand at 5-3 and 3-1 in their first four games following the bye week.

The Steelers won the coin toss and decided to take the ball first, which turned out to be a smart move with their offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, in his new position on the sidelines. In 10 plays and 4:49 seconds, the Steelers moved the ball down the field slowly but effectively, covering 78 yards and converting four first downs before Najee Harris scambled for a 10-yard touchdown run. With his ribs hurt, Kenny Pickett started the game by completing five of seven throws for 62 years.

With a 7-0 deficit, rookie Will Levis of the Titans onto the field to guide his offense in his second start. The Titans were able to enter Steeler territory thanks to four penalties against them: T.J. Watt for roughing the quarterback, Patrick Peterson for unlawful contact, and Joey Porter Jr., who was making his first career start, for wearing a facemask and using his hands illegally. However, once the flags stopped flying, Watt’s drive-killing, helmet-less sack allowed the Steelers to capitulate in the redzone and forced Nick Folk to settle for a 36-yard field goal, which he made.

Returning to the field, Pickett and company attempted to increase their advantage to 7-3, but after Pickett failed to catch George Pickens breaking free across the field, the offense went into a three-and-out. If Pickett had connected with his target, it would have been a first down, but Pressley Harvin entered the game to punt for the first time that day.

With the referees flinging flags onto the field, the first quarter came to a close much how it started. On the first four plays of Tennessee’s second possession, they were penalized three times for eighteen yards, which allowed Alex Highsmith to get another drive-ending sack and Tennessee to punt.

When they received the ball back, the Steelers were unable to perform any better. After a Harris run that netted them just two yards, Pickens and Calvin Austin were unable to catch successive throws, and Harvin was forced to punt once again.

By hitting Deandre Hopkins down the sideline for a first down, Levis ended the three-and-out sequence. After dodging two Steelers pass rushers, he found Nick Westbrook for a 23-yard ball that resulted in another first down, beating off rookie cornerback Darius Rush of the recently acquired Steelers. With 6:40 remaining in the first half, Henry completed the drive with a two-yard touchdown dash, capping the drive and giving the Titans a 10-7 lead. Henry then started to use his legs and ran six times for 29 years.

With Kyle Phillips receiving lengthy completions from Levis, the Titans marched down the field while racing against the time. However, the Titans opted for a 36-yard field goal with three seconds remaining to lead 13-10 over the Steelers at halftime after two more incomplete endzone attempts.

After halftime, the Titans had an opportunity to double dip, but the Steelers dominated Hopkins on second and third down, forcing incompletions and a punt.

The offense found a rhythm once more thanks to the Steelers running backs, who had their first possession of the second half. One of Harris’s greatest runs of the season, a 25-yarder, provided them some breathing room. The Steelers were forced to start a new set of downs after Elijah Molden’s improper contact penalty while covering Connor Heyward put them in a third and eight at the Tennessee 45-yard line.

as driving all the way to the 12-yard line, the Steelers seemed to have won the game with a touchdown throw from Pickett to Pickens, but Boswell’s 30-yard field goal was all they could manage as Pickens’ left foot went out of bounds. There was a 13–13 draw at the end of the 8:17 drive.

After forcing Levis to throw incomplete on third and five, Pittsburgh had a chance to swiftly regain possession, but Tennessee was saved by another improper contact call on Petersen. With 24 seconds remaining in the third quarter, the Titans grabbed a 16–13 lead when Henry went on a 23-yard catch and run. They then scored a 48-yard field goal.

The Steelers and Pickett were in a familiar and comfortable place at the beginning of their next drive: a one-score game in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the “Fourth Quarter Kenny” magic was absent, and the Steelers successfully punted once again. With a 48-yard boot, Harvin stopped Tennessee on their own eight-yard line.

With the Acrisure Stadium crowd in full voice on the opening play of the drive, Levis used all the time he had to throw from his offensive line to find Treylon Burks for a 21-yard gain down the sideline. On third and eight, though, the Steelers forced a stop after making a strong comeback.

With a 51-yard boot that landed in Austin’s arms for a fair catch at the Steelers eight-yard line, Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse reversed the field. The offense was pushed to the 41-yard line by the Steelers’ running backs, Harris and Warren, before Pickett sealed the victory by slyly finding Johnson for a 32-yard throw along the right sideline. Warren then had a 22-yard touchdown run after bouncing outside to put Pittsburgh in the.

The Steelers were sent back to the six-yard line by a false start penalty and a run for no gain, but they were eventually placed back on the three-yard line by a Titans penalty. After more than two years, Pickett’s major receiving score to put the Steelers up 20–16 came on the very next play when he hit Johnson in the flat.

Steelers tackling Broderrick But Jones made a costly mistake at the conclusion of the play, incurring an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that resulted in a 15-yard kickoff return by Tajae Spears, who then set his team up at their own 48-yard line. With just six yards gained, Levis led with two runs and looked for a home run on fourth and four.Burks advances outside the limits for an incomplete play, and Levi Wallace covers him to make the crucial stop.

Burks suffered a concussion before the play’s conclusion and needed to be helped off the field, causing a significant delay before both teams played the remaining 2:13 of regulation time. As he walked off the field, Burks managed to offer a thumbs up.

With 1:44 remaining in regulation and Tennessee having used up all but one timeout, the Steelers used up just 23 seconds with three runs that gained a total of two yards before punting and forcing their defense to make one more stop.

With 1:23 remaining, the Titans called their last timeout after Highsmith sacked Levis for an eight-yard loss on first and 10. Levis’ fourth and seven pass fell well short, giving the Steelers the appearance of having a stop, but with 53 seconds remaining, Porter was called for holding Hopkins, giving the Titans another shot.

With 27 seconds remaining, Levis spiked the ball to stop the time after hitting Chris Moore for 29 yards. Darius Rush almost brought the game to a close with an interception from the Steelers’ 36-yard line, but he was unable to hold on to the hanging throw meant for the endzone. With 11 seconds remaining, the Titans were able to enter the red zone thanks to another short throw, but Kwon Alexander sealed the victory with an interception near the goal, line, and the Steelers managed to hang on for a close 20-16 triumph.
