Industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata said that Tata’s manufacturing of semiconductors in Assam will put the state on the global map.
Investment:
With its first semiconductor unit to come up, Assam’s Morgano, backed by the largest-ever private investment of Rs 27,000 crore, has been presented with an opportunity to overcome barriers and showcase its capabilities. It is being said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made an extensive push to win this massive strategic investment.
Employment:
For Assam, which has come out of nowhere to bag a crucial investment in chip-building, this is nothing less than a dream come true. The facility will create direct employment opportunities for at least 15,000 people and generate indirect employment for an estimated 11,000 to 16,000 people. With a capacity of producing 48 million chips per day, this facility is being built for Rs 27,000 crore.
Assam chief minister:
Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, thanked industrialist Ratan Tata during their meeting in Mumbai. They talked about Tata Group’s upcoming Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor plant in Assam. Sarma praised the Tata semiconductor facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad as a game-changing investment. It’s expected to put Assam on the global semiconductor map and transform the economic situation in eastern India. In a statement after meeting with Ratan Tata and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, Sarma expressed the deep gratitude of the people of Assam for their strong belief in the state. He expects chip production to begin by 2025.
Furthermore, Sarma talked about setting up a skill development center at the semiconductor facility on Jag Road. This center will provide courses in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, aiming to empower youths from the North-East and improve their job opportunities at the Jag Road unit. Sarma also highlighted the training of 1,500 Assamese youths, especially women, at Tata facilities in Bangalore. He stressed their preparedness for leadership positions when the semiconductor facility starts operating in 2025.
