The World Cup 2023 is set to conclude with a thrilling finale between India and Australia on Sunday. This will be the second time the two cricket giants face off in the World Cup final, with India seeking to avenge their loss to Australia in 2003. Many experts predict that India will emerge victorious this time around. However, in the event of a tie, the game will move into a Super over, as was the case in the 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand. If the first Super over also ends in a tie, the match will continue with endless Super overs until a winner is determined, as per the World Cup 2023 Playing conditions.

During the course of the event, if a match ends in a tie, a Super Over will be played. In the event that the Super Over also ends in a tie, subsequent Super Overs will be played until a winner is determined. The only exception to this rule is if there are exceptional circumstances. In such cases, an unlimited number of Super Overs will be played until a result is achieved. This rule also applies to the final match, as stated in the ICC Playing conditions. If the final match ends in a tie, the teams will compete in a Super Over to determine the winner. It is worth noting that the ICC made changes to the Super Over rule in October 2019, following the controversy of the 2019 World Cup final being decided based on boundary count rather than runs or wickets.

Four teams have reached the semifinals of the World Cup 2023, each filled with pride and determination.

The World Cup 2023 is a culmination of years of preparation, hard work, and dedication. The teams have put in their utmost efforts to achieve positive results throughout the intense competition. Now, as we enter the knockout stage, the true test begins. The 2023 World Cup features four proud teams – India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia – each vying for the ultimate prize that can shape the future of their respective cricketing nations.

Although the number of matches in the World Cup has reduced to three, these matches will be etched in our memories forever. India faces their nemesis, New Zealand, in a high-stakes encounter, while South Africa takes on their long-standing rivals, Australia. The 2019 World Cup semifinal in Manchester and the AUS vs SA semifinal in Birmingham 1999 are still fresh in our minds, as they brought both heartbreak and joy. These four teams have a rich cricketing history and intense rivalries between them.

India and New Zealand have a unique relationship when it comes to ICC knockout matches. The Kiwis have emerged victorious in all three encounters, leaving Indian fans with a bittersweet feeling. After India, New Zealand and South Africa are often the teams that Indian fans hold dear. However, the Kiwis have also shattered Indian hearts on multiple occasions in ICC elimination games. The first blow was dealt by New Zealand in the 2000 ICC Knockout (Champions Trophy) final, where they clinched their first ICC title. It took 19 years for these two teams to meet again in an ICC knockout, and once again, the Blackcaps outplayed India in the rain-affected ODI semifinal, ending their dreams in Manchester. If only India could have had their revenge in the next encounter, but it seems there is a special connection between these two teams.

  1. Once again, South Africa and Australia will face off in a cricket match. The Proteas have managed to reach the semifinals after missing out in 2019, but they may have preferred a different opponent. Australia has a strong track record in knockout matches, with only two losses in nine appearances in the ODI World Cup final. In contrast, South Africa has only won two knockout matches in six appearances, both in the quarterfinals. To make matters worse, South Africa has already suffered two heartbreaking losses to Australia in the semifinals.
  2. Despite these challenges, South Africa’s batting attack is formidable when they bat first, with their top six players capable of scoring huge runs. Australia’s bowling has not been as strong as expected, which could work in South Africa’s favor. However, South Africa has a reputation for choking in high-pressure situations, which they will need to overcome if they hope to make their first appearance in the ODI World Cup final.
  3. Fans of both teams will be eagerly anticipating the match, which promises to be a thrilling contest between two fierce rivals.
