“As officers attempted to execute a search warrant at the home, the suspect fired several rounds inside.” “An explosion occurred at the residence as a result, and officers are still investigating the circumstances of the explosion,” the Arlington County office stated in a post on X.
Videos uploaded on social media, which News18 was unable to independently verify, showed what seemed to be a Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) squad vehicle approaching the residence where the explosion happened.
Police evacuated some residents and advised others to take cover. “You could feel the shock of sound. “I’ve lived here for 50 years and I’ve never seen anything like that,” a local stated.
The event occurred about a half-mile west of the Ballston-MU Metro station and north of Wilson Boulevard.
Carla Rodriguez of South Arlington said she heard the explosion from more over two miles (3.2 kilometers) away and came to the location, which was cordoned off blocks away, to see what was going on.

“At this time, we only know of one person who was inside the house,” Arlington County Police Department spokesman Ashley Savage told NBC News. The identity of the culprit in the event has not been released.
A neighbor told ARLnow that they believe “it blew up the entire duplex,” but that they hoped the family next door “was evacuated before it blew up.” Other neighbors reported that the explosion rocked their mattresses and left a “acrid stench” behind.
